10 Mistakes of Web Design

 10 Mistakes of Web Design
 Turns out there writing from Jacob Nielsen, the Usability design expert on the 10 biggest mistakes that should not be done in doing web design, namely

1. Poor search engine
The search engine is usually used when searching through the navigation failed. Ideally, the document occupies the top ranks obtained from the search engines is the most relevant documents to the user. However, search engines are currently based on how many literals in the document that match the query sentence. The number of literals of the match on a document, not necessarily relevant to the user. According to Mr. Jacob, a search engine should display the information "best bets", which documents are most often taken for a particular query.

2. PDF files are used to read online
The existence of the page that reads PDF format online can slow the flow of doing surfing activities. Besides slow to open, sometimes to do simple things like store and even put to print the document to be difficult. The most crucial thing, not all browsers support PDF fasitilitas online reading.

3. Does not change the color of text links is a sign that the link has been visited

Perhaps it has become commonplace, so that the user does not repeat the work to open the same page

4. Text that is not scannable
Scannable text is not difficult and 'very painful' to read. As for tips & tricks to design a scannable writing is:

* Subheads

* Bulleted lists

* Highlighted keywords

* Short paragraphs

* The inverted pyramid

* A simple writing style, and

* De-fluffed language devoid of marketese.

5. Font size can not change

In the CSS technology, provided the facility to not be able to change the font size. For example, the action does not activate Ctrl + Scroll to resize the font. Well, the facility should not be used. Allow users freedom in determining the appropriate font size desired.

6. The title page that causes the page hard to find by search engines (not visible)
Try a text page titles unique and relevant, which is described the contents of the site.

7. Anything that looks like an ad
Actually the ad is designed with the aim of immediate attention from the user (selective attention). But in reality, many users who often ignore ads. Instead the user to read the contents of these pages, most pages that look like ads immediately closed. Thus, avoid designs that look like ads or try methods other selective attention.

8. Violate design conventions
Convention / main principle in making the most of web design should not be violated is consistency. Web page design consistent in studying the user easier.

9. Opening a new browser window
Sometimes users do not realize that the new web page has been clicked open. In addition, a new browser window increases the 'dirty' monitor users.

10. No answer user questions
The main failure of a web design is the user is unable to get information from the web in which information is supposed to be there.

For example, the commercial web, the main information for users is the price of products / services. Most commercial web is not visible to the price information, so that users tend to search for other web more relevant. Another example is the downloading activity. Most web applications that provide download facility, must pass through various 'obstacles' procedure first.
